I’m sharing the techniques that work great on gingerbread houses. Here has a lot of awesome gingerbread home ideas, but if you’re anything like me, I live to go the extra mile. I love adding my own colors and custom details to really bring my house to life.
Before we decorate, I want to show you my setup.
I am using a gingerbread house that I cut and baked myself, but feel free to use any one of the ready-to-build or ready to decorate houses.
My house is already assembled but it’s not attached to the board. It just resting here. This way I can slide my house close to me while I’m decorating and the board doesn’t get in the way.
I have mine on a tall turntable, I like to use the high-low turntable, because it has a non-slip surface, and it locks in place. So the plate won’t move while I’m decorating.
Gingerbread kits come with a bag of ready-to-use icing, decorating bags, and tips, but I like to have extra icing for those special colors and added details. If you’re going to be using one of our gingerbread kits and you want extra icing.
It’ll dry hard, and it’ll last through the holiday season. Here are the recipe and tips on consistency.
I have my icing made, colored, and my bags are filled. I’m going to keep the tips to keep the keeps covered with a damp towel to prevent the icing from crusting in the tip.
